Fleet Vehicle Replacement Checklist
Use maintenance history, repair trend, mileage, downtime, operating cost, and business needs to structure vehicle replacement decisions.
Review maintenance and repair trend
A single repair rarely decides replacement. Look for repeated failures, increasing repair frequency, major upcoming service, and whether the same systems keep causing downtime.
Measure operating cost
Compare maintenance and repair spend, cost per mile, and recent high-cost events against the vehicle's usefulness to the business.
Include downtime and reliability
A vehicle that repeatedly disrupts routes, crews, or customer commitments can be more expensive than the repair invoices alone suggest.
Compare against the next vehicle
Replacement only makes sense in context. Consider acquisition cost, financing, expected maintenance, capacity, fuel or energy use, insurance, and how well the replacement fits the work.
